Good afternoon all you anglers, Well I'm finally back. I was away most of March for medical reasonsand when I got back April 2nd our cable was out and we had no internet for 10 days. Fishing was slow during March but the few times we got off shore our boys released 6 marlin and 12 sailfish also boated 8 large dorado. For many years March was always cosidered a hot black marlin month they are not here in big numbers. The good news is there is a big ball of billfish south of us and they are migrating north as they always do. In March they were off Quapos and every boat that went billfishing could release 10 to 20 sails a day. In the last days of March they were about 50 miles north just off Playa Heradura and they had a 30 boat tournament going on and they released more than 1000 sails and a good number of marlin. The first week of April our boat Bad Dog went about 40 miles south and their anglers released a 400 lb black marlin and two sailfish. What we are getting up here in Flamingo is the advance guard, you know that army of sails always send their advance guard ahead to check out the food supply. Our boys told me yesterday that we have a lot of bait, blue runners and sardines , in the water so we expect a good season this year. We had the red tide in shore the first week of April so the inshore fishing in the Flamingo Potrero was zero. Tha 1/2 day inshore boats had to go out to the catalinea fishing to get away from the tide. The rooster fishing was not good as it usually is but several schools of yellow fin tuna showed so the anglers had a good time reeling in those 20 to 25 pound tunas. Let me tell you reel in 6 or 8 of those 25 lb. tunas with a spinning reel and you are ready to head for the barn for a good cold one and some fresh sushi. When the tuna are in the mate usually has a bottle soy souse and if you catch a tuna he will wip you up sushi so fresh that its jumping on your plate. The picture is Joe Walsh with a nice sail landed on a fly this week. Thank you all, and my next report will be soner. Fred |
